A) WHY IS MARRIAGE UNDER ASSAULT?

1] Change in Lifestyle

2] Change in Sexual Values

3] Change in Perspective

Marriage is under assault today because our world has changed – has made us self-centred & self-obsessed – we have forgotten the meaning of true love – have become incapable of real love!  

B) WHAT DOES MARRIED LIFE `IN ALL ITS FULLNESS’ LOOK LIKE?

1] Focus on its Purpose

Gen 2:21-25 – ²¹So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. ²²Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. ²³The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” ²⁴That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. ²⁵Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

• Sex – the seal of a life-long covenant relationship
• Family & Home – the fruit of covenant love
• God’s glory – the ultimate purpose of marriage

2] Flee Lust

1 Cor 6:18 – Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body

Eph 5:3 – Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people

Job 31:1 – I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a woman

3] Follow the Manual

Eph 5:25, 28-29, 31-33 – ²⁵For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her…²⁸In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. ²⁹No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church…³¹As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” ³²This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. ³³So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

• Love like Christ

As long as time endures and God remains on his throne – marriage will always remain at the foundation of human society!
